Andre Arbus

André Arbus (1903-1969).Arbus was a French artist and decorator.  He trained in his father’s woodcraft shop.  Later he over-took the work-shop.  Arbus’ work is in line with the tradition established by Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann or Jules Leleu.  His approach is holistic and geared towards developing subtle balances in the space arrangements and in the color tones.  Arbus’breakthrough happens during the 1937 Exhibition “Pavillon des Artistes Décorateurs” where he presented a music boudoir and a woman’s bedroom.   After World War 2, the French agency Mobilier National commissions Arbus for the office of the Ambassador to the United-States of America.  He has participated in the decoration of the prestigious liners: Bretagne. Provence and France.  Source: http://www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr  Image: "Children's Bedroom" as part of the project: "The House of a French Family"
